Your dentist will tell you if your tooth needs to have a filling. The most common reason for a filling is dental decay. If this is the case, first the decayed part of the tooth is removed, leaving the healthy part of the tooth behind.
The tooth is prepared with a special gel that creates a rough surface for the filling to bond to. This is cleaned away and dried.
The filling itself is layered onto the tooth, using visible blue light to harden the resin as it is applied. White fillings take a well-practised hand to rebuild a tooth to create a natural-looking restoration. Once finished, the filled tooth is cleaned and polished.
