FAQs
Emergency dental care is critical because it gets you out of pain, restores your tooth, ensures that your mouth is healthy, and prevents further complications. If you ignore your toothache or any other oral issue, it will only become worse and require more invasive, costly treatment down the road. Getting help from an emergency dentist as soon as possible gives us the best chance of saving your tooth. It also allows you to get relief from your pain and discomfort, and get back to your day-to-day life more quickly.
First, recover the tooth. Grab it by the crown (top) not by the fragile root (bottom). Rinse it off with warm water, if necessary, and gently put it back into the socket or into a baggie of cold milk. Call us and come to our office as soon as you can.
A knocked-out tooth must be re-implanted and splinted within 1-2 hours for it to survive. If you wait longer than this, it will begin to die, and we may not be able to save it. Donít delay. Come see us as soon as you can.
The most obvious category of emergencies includes oral injuries, such as a cracked, chipped, damaged, or knocked-out tooth. However, there are many other things that count as emergencies, such as a painful, prolonged toothache, a pulled-out or damaged piece of dental work (like a filling), or even a piece of food or debris that is stuck between your teeth and wonít come out.
As a general rule of thumb, you are experiencing a dental emergency if you are in pain and discomfort, and you do not know how to treat your issue on your own. It is important to visit a dentist right away if you think you are having a dental emergency for the best chance of saving your tooth and avoiding more costly treatment down the road.
