If plaque builds up on your teeth it can irritate the gums, resulting in a condition called gingivitis:
- Signs of gingivitis include gums becoming red and puffy, whereas healthy gums are pink and firm.
- Some people are more prone to gingivitis such as those with crooked teeth, smokers and those whose parents have gingivitis.
- Plaque buildup can be prevented by brushing teeth and flossing daily as well as visiting the dentist regularly for deep cleanings.
